Transfer list clearance

One or two managers have expressed a concen that players placed on the transfer list are remaining on there too long. I do agree that something needs to be done here.

The first thing I am going to do is make players on the list forcibly get taken off upon a manager leaving a team. I don't think this happens at the moment so this is going to be my next task.

After that, I think I shall add a removal option to the player information page as an option to do so from that page can only help.

Finally, I get the impression that most managers think there should be a limit where players are removed after a certain amount of time. It's the timescale I am currently debating. Also, should the timescale be different between loanable and transferrable players? I think not but your thoughts would be good.

Whatever timescale is used, a message will have to go to the manager stating the player has been taken off so they can re-list him if they so wish.

Any thoughts?

  1. An excellent idea all round. Esp in relation to managers who leave the game. The rest of us can always re-add them when the listing expires.

Will this automatic removal also apply to the transfer pool? It would be good if players also got deleted from the pool after a few weeks because the pool is getting bigger and bigger, mainly with 1 and 2 rated players that nobody wants, and it takes ages to scroll though them all to get to the latter weeks' offers.

  2. I hadn't intended it for the transfer pool as they have expiry dates anyway. It maybe better to have a different way of sorting that though?

  3. Yes, highest rating first, regardless of when added to the pool, would really help here.

  4. Frank,

I can't really do this as rating is going :-)

I think a lot of the game will work better once their isn't a single figure for each player and their benfit to the team isn't as obvious.

  5. I keep forgetting the ratings are going.... highest current value then?

  6. Not sure yet. I may leave it for now as it could look a whole lot different when the new ratings are fully in play. Managers won't necessarily just be getting rid of 1/2 rated players because the players may be good at something they require for a certain position. Working out your best team will be less clear cut you see......

  7. This new rating system sounds quite worrying ...especially if we wont even be able to work out what our strongest teams is and presumably wont be able to work out the true value/strength of players on the transfer list.

I guess only time will tell :-)

  8. Frank,

Why is it worying? There are currently a few variables determing the ability of a player but the stand out one is rating. Very simple but way too basic to be much of a challenge.

Football manager has loads of different attributes - it's much more of a challenge when its not so obvious.

Tell me any real life manager that always puts their strongest team out - it's all opinions and the new ratings will make it so that its not boringly simple.

So I don't see where the worry is?

  9. I don't like this idea, how about this idea.

We have 4 weeks open transfer period for sales at the beginning of the campaign, then 4 weeks mid season for transfers!

Might help to secure the game economics.

  10. Jonathan,

Unfortunately managers join the game at different times and I don't want to make it so they can't instantly attempt to improve their team.

You can always re-list players but I'm sure a more up-to-date transfer list benefits all?

  11. It would be great if you could make some (or all) of the columns sortable by clicking on the heading in the transfer list as players seem to just be listed generally by rating, but there always seems to be some out of order for some reason. But rather than sorting them by one heading, why not make all the columns sortable so each owner can decide how they want it sorted when looking at it?
